Give and Get Rewarded

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For, with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Thus says the Bible.

My Friends,

One of the most striking results of the World Giving Indices (WGI) for the years 2012 and 2013 was the rise of India’s rank from 133 to 93.  This is a significant achievement, for sure.  Unfortunately though, we as a nation still ranks way below all our neighbour countries.

In a list of countries that received foreign aid, India ranked 6th in 2011 and 18th in 2012 among 143 countries.  The significant improvement in 2012 over 2011 is very encouraging too.  However, there is a long way for us to go to establish our identity as a giver.

Shouldn’t we become a giver so that we can begin our journey to prosperity?  It is the law of giving and receiving that governs the growth trajectory.  We have been groomed to think and believe that we can’t really give anything to anyone as we don’t have enough for ourselves.  We repeat this story to ourselves and to those around us for so long that we actually believe it is the reality.

Is it really true that there is nothing that we can to offer to the world? to your neighbour?  Give it a serious thought.

We all have something, money, skill, talents, love, some knowledge and things that we can share.

Today, how many of us cannot afford to donate ONE RUPEE PER WEEK for the less fortunate?

Can we promise ourselves today that each one of us will make a contribution in money or material that is not less than One Rupee per week; whether by sacrificing a little pleasure or by working a little extra?

Let’s join to make our country’s global ranking a little better.  Let’s work towards the goal that we become a leading giver, a leading donor, not a receiver any more.

Love to all,

NB:  I would value your comments.
